Amy Matychuk

Amy Matychuk (she/her) founded Prison and Police Law to address miscarriages of justice in the prison system and at the hands of police. After graduating from UCalgary Law in 2018 and spending three years working for judges at the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Nunavut Court of Justice, she started Prison and Police Law in 2021 with the goal of providing victims of police and prison mistreatment with better access to justice.

In 2024, Amy was named in Avenue Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 for her prison justice and police misconduct advocacy. She also serves on the executive committees of the Canadian Prison Law Association, the Alberta Prison Justice Society, and the Alberta Police Misconduct Database Association.

Amy is called to the bar in Alberta (2019), Nunavut (2023), and the Northwest Territories (2025).

Amy lives in Calgary, Alberta with her family.

Charlotte Sheasby

Charlotte Sheasby (she/they) is a Student-At-Law at Prison & Police Law.

She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law in 2024 and received her Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in 2025.

Charlotte is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law at Osgoode. She is a frequent commentator on legal and 2SLGBTQ+ issues for various national and international publications.
